New customs legislation from May 1st, 2016

Since May 1st 2016, the new customs legislation of the European Union is valid. This regulation influences everyone who imports goods into the European Union. One of the most important changes, involves adding license fees and royalties to the transaction.

This modification of the law affects how you file your customs declarations at Ritra Cargo. The costs that come with license fees and royalties are now part of the customs value, which influences the import duties rate.

We are aware that license fees and royalties are charged in different ways. They cannot always be allocated to the value of the imported goods in advance. For example, in cases where the value depends upon the amount of goods sold or net sales. In these kinds of situations, you might not be able to determine the costs that come with license fees and royalties. In this case, or when you have any doubts, we strongly advise you to contact the customs office in your district. They will be able to advise you on the matter.
