Port of Shenzhen/Yantian barely operational due to coronavirus outbreak
8 June 2021
The Chinese province of Guangdong is currently dealing with a coronavirus outbreak. It concerns (a mutation of) the Indian variant. The impact is felt throughout the Shenzhen port area, with Yantian particularly affected. Many terminals are closed and authorities have imposed extensive measures related to testing, disinfection and quarantine.
These many restrictions mean the ports are now barely operational. Many containerships are anchored and waiting to moor. Several shipping companies have now decided to bypass Yantian, and some are rerouting to the nearby port of Nansha. Right now, the average delay is about 7 to 8 days. Many shipping companies have therefore announced they will be bypassing Yantian port for the time being.
Shenzhen is the third largest container port in the world. What’s more, the peak season for export from Asia is just about to start. This situation will cause disruptions and inconvenience for forwarders.
Be assured that we will do our utmost to make sure your transport from Shenzhen is organised in the best possible way. This could be by using other ports in the region. For very urgent shipments, we recommend using our airfreight services.
