This year, 3FM Serious Request is rallying support for children battling metabolic diseases. And with good reason. Each year, around 10,000 families in the Netherlands are affected by metabolic conditions. We first brought this to your attention in our September newsletter. Today we are reaching out once again. Unfortunately, not everyone can enjoy a carefree December.

They are so close!

In our September update, we shared the inspiring campaign initiated by the doctors, nurses, laboratory specialists, dietitians and researchers at the Centre for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases at Erasmus Medical Centre.

With your assistance, we were able to achieve more efficient distribution of our annual wall calendars. We have donated the money saved to this heart-warming cause. But despite having achieved a substantial amount of donations, Erasmus MC is just shy of reaching its fundraising target. This is why we are stepping up with a second donation, and we want to call on you to do the same

3FM Serious Request 2024

From 18 to 24 December, the iconic  3FM Serious Request fundraising event will be broadcast from the glass house. Three 3FM DJs will raise funds for Stichting Metakids foundation, an organisation dedicated to research into over 1,900 metabolic diseases that affect children.

According to the Centre for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases at Erasmus MC:

 “In the Netherlands, 10,000 families face the daily reality of living with a metabolic disease. “These conditions have an overwhelming impact on the quality of life for both patients and their families, and they remain one of the deadliest diseases affecting children today.

 At our Centre, we work tirelessly to improve the future for patients with metabolic diseases, conducting research into innovative treatments. As doctors, nurses, laboratory specialists, dietitians and researchers, we understand the impact of a metabolic disease on the patient and their families.

That is why we help 3FM Serious Request in raising both awareness and funds to make these diseases treatable.”

Doctors are campaigning!

The doctors are shining a spotlight on two themes in this campaign: Nutrition & Exercise. These might seem quite obvious elements for most; however, to metabolic patients, they signify a huge limitation.

For the nutrition theme, several staff members have followed a low-protein diet – a lifestyle choice that patients must adhere to for life. As for exercise, various employees have individually and collectively completed the distance between Rotterdam and Zwolle (150 km) – not by car, but in a variety of sport and physical activities.
